Abstract

Background *
This is a case of a 35 years female patient who came to Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences, Amalapuram, with swelling in the parotid region without facial nerve involvement. She underwent superficial parotidectomy and the postoperative specimen was sent for histopathological examination.

methods *
Preoperative fine needle aspiration cytology impression was a pleomorphic adenoma. She underwent superficial parotidectomy and the specimen sent for histopathological examination.

Results *
Post operative histopathological examination showed impression of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of intermediate grade and for patient referred to higher centre for radiotherapy.

Conclusion *
Parotid gland tumours should never be neglected. In this case report, due to on-time surgery an accurate post-operative histopathological examination, the diagnosis of malignancy made early and patient sent for radiotherapy.
